Put your mind at ease
At Tracks and Dales, we know it can be daunting not knowing where you are going to go on the day. You may have booked a climbing day, but have no idea what will entail. Please look through our gallery and captions below to give you an idea of how each day will go. Hopefully this will give you a visual idea of what to expect on the day.
Outdoor Rock Climbing
At Tracks and Dales, we use various outdoor climbing crags around The Lake District and Yorkshire Dales. Our most common spots are: The Langdales, St. John’s in the Vale, Hutton Roof and Ingleton. All of these crags have various grades of climbing for beginners’ and repeat customers, to seasoned outdoor climbers. We also use these spots for abseiling too and often combine both activities into one action packed day!
Mountain Walks
We offer a large variety of mountain walks, right across The Lake District and Yorkshire Dales. The most common areas we hike in are: Coniston, Langdales, Kentmere, Longsleddle, Eskdale, Wasdale, Borrowdale, Chapel-le-Dale, Ribblehead and Horton in Ribblesdale. Often, we meet somewhere with a large car park and access to toilets and somewhere for a hot drink! Sometimes though, depending on location, access to those facilities may be limited and we ask for you to be prepared for this. Please don’t hesitate to do some further research on the areas listed above to give you an idea of what to expect. Please also see below our drop down of the mountain areas we would visit in each area.

Chapel-le-Dale, Ribblehead and Horton in Ribblesdale all lie near Ingleton, North Yorkshire. There are three mountains above each location; Whernside, Ingleborough and Pen-y-Ghent. Often, parties will choose to complete these all within 12 hours known as ‘The Yorkshire 3 Peaks Event’. However, at Tracks and Dales, we are happy to just have a wander up one of them! There’s also a great pub in the middle of all three with a great selection of hot drinks and food.
