Cuillin Ridge Traverse
April 2021 -
Finally completed a goal of mine to complete the Cuillin Ridge Traverse on the Isle of Skye. My partner’s Dad needed to do all of the Cuillin Munro’s so suggested we go up together to do a traverse. I was more than happy to help with this.
Over 31 hours of moving time, 3,166m (10387 feet (not including our reccy up the day before to stash food and water)) of ascent plus two bivouacs.
Constant grade 2 - 3 scrambling throughout the whole ridge, with 6 climbs (I think) up to Severe level that we roped up for and about 10 abseils and many down climbs.
Snow showers for about half of the first day made the rock slippy and progress slow. Thankfully it cleared for our second bivvy with only a few snow showers on the second day.
Had to dig deep mentally towards the end of the first day, when we were still hours away from our stash, but excitement built as we could see the Bealach. Tiredness also kicked in before Sgurr nan Gillean; the final Munro and the end of the traverse (there are 11 Munro’s on the ridge).
